I was given this doll in 1960 and my Mother put it away for me. It's never been used.
It was made by a Moravian lady who was a professional seamstress. She made if for her daughter
sometime during the 1930-1940’s. The daughter died before getting the chance to have the doll, so the mother put the doll away.
The doll is made of cloth and dressed in a traditional Moravian dress – grey dress, a white apron, white cap, black buckle shoes. She has a matching petticoat and pantaloons, and white leggings. The pocket on her apron has a small handwritten note telling what the different color caps represented in the Moravian community.
Note in Moravian Doll’s Pocket:
The single women wore pink ribbon in their caps.
Married women wore blue.
Widows …. white
Little girls …. cherry red
The doll is in excellent condition. She is approximately 17 inches long.
This is NOT a Maggie Bessie doll.
